If you're upgrading your bike, your old groupset still has real value — even if it's no longer current. Here's how trade-ins typically work and what you can do to get the most out of yours.

How trade-ins work at Lynkage

  1. You tell us what you have. Brand, model, generation, condition, and what's included (chain? cassette? rotors?).
  2. We provide a trade-in estimate. This is a credit you can apply against new parts in our shop.
  3. You drop off or post the parts. We inspect them; the final credit is confirmed.
  4. Credit is applied to your purchase.

What we look for when valuing parts

  • Generation. Newer = more value, broadly speaking.
  • Condition. Functional wear (light chainring teeth wear, used cassette) is normal. Crash damage, bent derailleurs, or stripped threads reduce value sharply.
  • Completeness. A full groupset is worth more than the sum of its loose pieces.
  • Service history. Recent service, replaced consumables (chain, cables) help.

Simple things you can do to boost trade-in value

  • Clean the parts before bringing them in. Drivetrain grime can hide damage and makes inspection harder.
  • Keep the original boxes/packaging if you have them.
  • Don't strip components unless you're confident — improper removal can damage threads or interfaces.
  • Note any known issues upfront. Honesty almost always nets you a better outcome than us discovering problems later.

What we can't always take

  • Heavily worn drivetrains at the end of their life (chains stretched well past wear limit, deeply worn rings).
  • Crash-damaged carbon parts.
  • Items with safety concerns (cracked frames, dented carbon rims).

In some cases, parts that aren't viable for resale can still be repurposed or recycled — ask us.

Why trade-in often beats private sale

  • Faster. No listings, no meetups, no chasing payment.
  • Credit toward parts you actually want.
  • No risk of disputes after the sale.

The trade-off: the credit is usually a bit lower than a top-end private sale price.
