Centerlock
wheels
Centerlock is a brake rotor mounting standard developed by Shimano. Instead of the 6 bolts used by the older 6-bolt standard, the rotor slides onto a splined hub interface and is secured by a single lockring.
Advantages:
- Faster rotor changes.
- More uniform clamping force around the rotor.
Considerations:
- Requires a Centerlock-compatible hub.
- Some Centerlock lockrings need a cassette tool to install (external splines), others use a bottom-bracket-style tool (internal splines) — check what fits your hub.
Adapters exist to fit a 6-bolt rotor onto a Centerlock hub, but not the other way around.
